Patterns - General Information
Here is a typical pattern. This is for a 6m. (20') runabout. It rolls out to about 6.3 m. x 1.5 m.

If it looks like a nightmare, read on. These patterns are quite easy to use.

Patterns are plotted on clear MYLAR (polyester) sheet. This a durable, stretch-free material that is

unaffected by moisture.
The coloured inks are waterproof but can wear off under repeated abrasion. Colours will fade in strong
sunlight.
Patterns are supplied rolled up in a mailing tube 1.5 m. (5') long. Two sheets are supplied if the job is
wider than 1.5 m. Join them with tape after carefully aligning the edges.
Shapes are colour coded thus:
-side components:- red
-bottom components:- green
-framing components:- blue
-longitudinal shapes (keel, decks, gun'l):- black
-cabin and other parts:- magenta
Shapes have fit-up lines for mating with other parts
All parts, edges and marks are labelled
In use, the pattern is layed dead flat on the plate stock and secured with a few tapes. The shape is
then marked on the plate with a spring-loaded centre punch. After removing the pattern, the shape is
lined in with a fine felt pen and is ready for cutting.
Quick and accurate work is possible after a little practice.
